HOMEOPATHIC PRINCIPLES:
‘TREAT LIKE-WITH-LIKE’
(The ‘Law of Simillimum’)
When a person is unwell, homeopathy aims to match
the symptoms of that ‘unwellness’, with the symptoms created
when a remedy is taken by otherwise-healthy people, as determined
during the ‘investigation’ phase of ‘proving a remedy’.
This is a core homeopathic principle of ‘treating like-with-like’
- officially referred to as ‘The Law of Simillimum’.
SEEMS ‘ILLOGICAL’
At first, ‘treating like-with-like’ may seem a bit like recommending
that a fire brigade should use a flamethrower to put out a fire.
Add in the less-is-more potency principle, and it could be assumed
that for really big fires, homeopathy would ‘advise’
just throw a lighted match at it to put it out!
MEDICAL SECTOR STARTING TO DO SIMILIAR
Such criticisms have long been levelled at homeopathy
- including by the medical sector - which is interesting given their current
‘ground-breaking treatment’ of reducing people’s food allergies,
by getting them to consume very small amounts of that food,
to get the body ‘used to consuming that food’
and thereby lowering their intollerance to it.
PERHAPS MORE LIKE A ‘CANCELLING OUT’
Maybe ‘treat like-with-like’ is a bit more like:
- a ship’s ‘bow-bulb’ that ‘offsets’ the wake that would otherwise be created, or
- a replicated sound wave ‘half-offset’ to ‘cancel out’ an existing sound wave.
PREFER ‘MESSAGING’ EXPLANATION
A potentially more accurate explaination favoured by this site,
is seeing homeopathy’s ‘treat like-with-like’
more like a message/instruction system, that targets
‘controlling switches’ that turn on or off ‘ill-health’.
