HOMEOPATHIC PRINCIPLES:
POTENCY - LETTERS & NUMBERS
Every homeopathic potency is identified
first by a single Number, followed by a ‘Roman Numeral-Letter’.
For clarity purposes, the ‘Letter’ is here explained first, then the ‘Number’,
‘ROMAN NUMERAL-LETTER’ = ‘1ST PROCESS’
The ‘Roman Numeral-Letter’
reflects the underlying method of ‘Potencizing’.
3 MOST COMMON ‘ROMAN NUMERAL-LETTERS’
The 3 (Roman Numeral) ‘Potency Letters’
most commonly used are ‘X’, ‘C’ and ‘M’ -
with ‘X’ being the least ‘potencized’,
‘C’ much more potent and
‘M’ way more potent.
POTENCY - ‘X’
1 part ‘Base Material’ mixed with 9 parts ‘other’
- usually lactose or alcohol/water -
meaning a ‘1 in 10’ mixture or 1/10th (one-tenth)
and hence the Roman Numeral Letter ‘X’ for ‘10’.
In general, an X-potency usually has a ‘shortish active-time’
- maybe up to a few days - and is suited to fairly frequent use,
even over long periods of time.
This site favours the use of 6X-potency for Tissalts
especially for ‘balancing tissalt imbalances’
or using Tissalts as an ‘introduction’ to homeopathy in general.
POTENCY - ‘C’
1 part ‘Base Material’ mixed with 99 parts ‘other’ - usually alcohol/water -
meaning a ‘1 in 100’ mixture or 1/100th (one-hundredth)
and hence the Roman Numeral Letter ‘C’ for ‘100’.
These potencies are ususally created using alcohol/water ‘diluters’
and specific ‘succussions/thump-shakes’ of the mixture also occurs.
In general, an C-potency usually has a ‘mediumish active-time’
- from a few days to a month or more -
and is suited to less frequent use than that for X-potencies.
This site favours the use of C-potency
when aiming for ‘Constitutional/Underlying Change’
POTENCY - ‘M’
1 part ‘Base’ mixed with 999 parts ‘other’ - usually alcohol/water -
meaning a ‘1 in 1000’ mixture or 1/1000th (one-thousandth)
and hence the Roman Numeral Letter ‘M’ for ‘1000’.
These potencies are also ususally created using alcohol/water ‘diluters’
and specific ‘succussions/thump-shakes’ of the mixture also occurs.
In general, an M-potency usually has a ‘long active-time’
- from weeks to months or more -
and is suited to less frequent use than that for C-potencies.
This site favours the use of M-potency
for ‘serious’ health issues.
‘ACCOMPANYING NUMBER’ = SUBSEQUENT PROCESSING
Doing a ‘1st reduction/dilution’ creates the ‘accompanying number’ of ‘1’ -
eg 1X or 1C or 1M
Higher numbers reflect how many times a ‘reduction/dilution’ is repeated.
INCREASING X-POTENCY
It is VERY UNUSUAL that a 1X potency is useful in its own right.
Take 1/10th of the 1X remedy and mix it with 9 parts ‘other’ creates ‘2X’.
Take 1/10th of the 2X remedy and mix it with 9 parts ‘other’ creates ‘3X’.
And so on.
Six ‘X-reductions/dilution’ creates ‘6X’.
INCREASING C-POTENCY
It is VERY UNUSUAL that a 1C potency is useful in its own right.
Mix 1/100th of 1C remedy with 99 parts ‘other’ (and succuss) creates ‘2C’.
Mix 1/100th of 2C remedy with 99 parts ‘other’ (and succuss) creates ‘3C’.
And so on.
Six ‘1st-C processes’ creates ‘6C’.
Thirty ‘1st-C processes’ creates ‘30C’.
INCREASING M-POTENCY
1M potency is OFTEN USEFUL in its own right.
1/1000th of 1M remedy, then mix with 999 parts ‘other’ (and succuss) creates ‘2M’.
1/1000th of 2M remedy, then mix with 999 parts ‘other’ (and succuss) creates ‘3M’.
And so on.
Five ‘1st-M processes’ creates ‘5M’.
Ten ‘1st-M processes’ creates ‘10M’.
