SCHOOL CHAIR & TABLE At school, 14 years old. This really was an unfortunate accident even though it was part of a then-popular classrom ‘prank’. LUNCH INDOORS It was kind of a wettish day, so we were allowed to have our lunch inside the classroom. After lunch, the few of us there decided to have a chess contest, so we set up a board on one of the tables, with a player on either side. When my turn came, I was on the side of the table one would ‘normally’ sit. SET-UP FOR A FALL As the game progressed, something happened where I was encouraged by those present to stand up a little and lean forward to ‘get something’. As I went to sit down, the person directly behind me pulled my chair away, with the aim of me missing the chair and ending up instead, sitting down hard onto the floor. NOT QUITE ENOUGH SPACE Unfortunately, we had been doing a class activity before lunch, that meant all the desks and chairs had all been moved forward a bit to create space at the rear of the classroom for that activity to occur and the ‘narrowed rows’ were still in place. Therefore, the chair could only be pulled partly away. As I sat back down, my butt landed on the front of the chair seat, where it remained and the chair seat continued to tilt forward and downwards, with me on it. MULTIPLE, SIMULTANEOUS IMPACT POINTS As I continued on this downward and slightly forward tragectory, I got to a point where my chin hit the top of the desk top. If that wasn’t enough of an impact, the back bar of the chair simultaneously hit squarely on the back of my head. This chin-on-desk, chair-bar-to-back-of-head was then compounded by the rest of my body continuing on its accelerating downward and slightly forward path, so most of my body weight ‘kinked’ the neck, in effect severely tilting my head backwards - except the chair bar was stopping that from fully happening. CRACK! The impact was very hard and very sudden. If my tounge had been between my teeth, I would have significantly bitten into it - or maybe even bitten right through it. The person who pulled the chair out from me was VERY apologetic. ‘SPARKLY STARS’ This is the first and only time I recall seeing ‘stars’. It was like a veil full of ‘sparkler shards’ exploded in front of my eyes. I was very physically hurt - especially my jaw and the back of my head. HEADACHE .. THEN AND FOREVER MORE I certainly had a headache from that for quite a while. Don’t think I went to the ‘sick bay’. I believe I have had an underlying headache from this injury, 24/7 since. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (Back) To… Incidents Overview Page (Back) To… “S-P-C” Site Overview Map ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WARNING: “Self-Physi-Chiro” may make it easier for you to form positive changes within and to your health/life. “SteveKineez” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ For whole site overview, visit … Steve “Kineez” SITE MAP Site-Wide Disclaimer and Copyright Notices
