KNEE IN RIBS - THEN MID-BACK KICKED Playing high school rugby, 17 years old The opposition team was from an all boys high school we played only once a year. This day we were at their school ground, which after a few days of very heavy rain, was more like a muddy paddling pool than a rugby field. Not sure if it was first or second half, but the opposition centre got the ball and made a bee line towards me standing on the right wing. I shaped up to tackle him and at the last scond he tried to side step me and I instantly changed my direction to follow him. ‘SLIDE-STEP’ Unfortunately, the muddy wet ground meant our feet slid from under us and we both went quickly to the ground - him first, with me falling ‘left side of my rib cage first’ onto the very boney side of his left knee. I was left on the ground gasping for breath and unable to move. Thankfully the played moved away from me. PLAY COMES BACK MY WAY Unfortunately, the play came back towards me, then right over me, with many of the forwards from both teams tightly packed completing for the ball. Suddenly I could breath again, as I let out an almight shout of pain. Unbeknown to me at the time, I had been kicked squarely in the back - just to the right side of the spine at about ‘T10-ish’. I was rolling/flayling about the field groaning in pain, so the referee stopped the game and asked me “What happened”. “I don’t know”, I gaspingly replied, “I got injured, then the play came over me and then I dont’ know” Then, from a spectator on the sideline, came this comment - “Number (?6 or 7) kicked him in the back”. “Did someone kick you in the back?” asked the Ref. “I don’t know” I gasped. I had to leave the field and afterwards I went to the hospital to get x-rayed for broken ribs - apparently ‘no’. ‘KICKED-IN’ MUSCLE It wasn’t until about 8 or so years later, when a deep-tissue masseur, ‘pulled out’ what he described as a “a bit of muscle stuck deep in-between two ribs where they join the spine.” No wonder I had had so much trouble with my back since that injury - and I’m still attempting to get this ‘healed’. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (Back) To… Incidents Overview Page (Back) To… “S-P-C” Site Overview Map ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WARNING: “Self-Physi-Chiro” may make it easier for you to form positive changes within and to your health/life. “SteveKineez” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ For whole site overview, visit … Steve “Kineez” SITE MAP Site-Wide Disclaimer and Copyright Notices
