‘TACKLE-SHOULDER’ Rugby, 8 to 17 years old From a very young age I loved playing rugby union. First of all learning ball skills in my front yard, then commencing playing the game for real from 8 years old. A major part of the game is tackling any opposition player who is in possession of the ball and coming your way. A definite technique to a ‘laying a good tackle’ includes being able to stiffen your own body immediately prior to impact and to give a little extra ‘omph’ at the point of contact. Also, players usually have a favourite shoulder to lead with - mine was my right shoulder. Years of ‘laying good tackles’ with this preferred shoulder, often leads to ligament, nerve, bone, tendon and/or muscle damage. Mine got to a stage where I’d eventually injure that shoulder in a tackle and I’d have to miss the next game as my arm was in a sling. This was one of the main reasons that I ‘hung up my boots’ once I finished high school - it is little use being on a rugby field and not being able to ‘lay a good tackle’. Still causes me soreness and neck problems decades later. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (Back) To… Incidents Overview Page (Back) To… “S-P-C” Site Overview Map ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WARNING: “Self-Physi-Chiro” may make it easier for you to form positive changes within and to your health/life. “SteveKineez” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ For whole site overview, visit … Steve “Kineez” SITE MAP Site-Wide Disclaimer and Copyright Notices
