MID-AIR CRASH TACKLEDPlaying high school rugby, 16 years oldA TALE OF TWO SCHOOLSAt the start of year 4 of 5 for high school, I changed high schools from the one I started in because I lived near it, to another high school that through a family move, was now closer.Thing was, we moved later in my first year of high school,so I had formed friendships at my first school, including rugby friends.BITTER RIVALSThese two high schools were bitter rivals -the later one being much newer and there was plenty of families who had kids at both. This match between us was a ‘friendly’ pre-season gameand the team members of my previous but now rival school, were bigger and mostly a year older than us in the newer school’s team,as the new school was still ‘naturally-growing’ and only had up to 4th year. The stage was set for them ‘oldies’ to whip us ‘youngies’.ME AS ‘PRIME TARGET’And me being a ‘traitor’, I was ‘the prime target’for all of the players on my former school’s team.During the first half, their best back got the ball, tucked it under his arm and headed straight towards me.Apparently the impact when we met was quite severe, with neither of us moving the other and after a momentary pause,we both went to ground and the play went on.This did not go down well with the other player -by rights, he should have easily broke my tackle and me too.In the second half, he got his ‘revenge’.‘CRASH’ TACKLEDThe ball was kicked by them into our defensive quarter and I ran back, secured possession of the ball, then kicked it out to restart the play further up-field.Thing was, as I kicked the ball, he ‘crash’ tackled me - legally for those days, but now days probably a red card -no attempt to wrap his arms ‘around’ and his shoulder thudding into my kicking-leg side, while I had no feet on the ground.Bang! A brief flying through the air for me,before I hit the ground - top right side buttock first.I was ‘winded’ and couldn’t move -it was like my whole right side had been hit with very big club.GAME MUST GO ONThe referee came over and after a while said I would have to leave the field,as it seemed I couldn’t get back to my feet.I said to give me one more minute and I’ll be back standing - which I did, albeit very ‘gingerly’.I was glad the game finished soon after.Still feel that tackle - decades later.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (Back) To…Incidents Overview Page(Back) To…“S-P-C” Site Overview Map~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WARNING:“Self-Physi-Chiro” may make it easier for you to form positive changes within and to your health/life.“SteveKineez”~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ For whole site overview, visit …Steve “Kineez” SITE MAPSite-Wide Disclaimer and Copyright Notices
