HARD TO DO PHYSICAL WORK After the machine tipover at an orchard in 1986, the physical work associated with business became increasingly more difficult to do. Indeed, it got to a stage where I had a physical breakdown and had to ‘walk away’ - while I still could - from that business in late 1988. NEXT 18 YEARS From the end of 1998 to early 2006, I did not attempt to do much physical work. I started my ‘rehab’ with doing a university degree and moving into administration type roles. I did - with help - fit out a 2nd floor office space in about 1992. But dismantled it by myself in 1993 and struggled immensely - to carry the large sheets of particle board that made the three dividing walls - down the stairs, put onto the car’s roof rack, then take it off into storage. I also at various times between 1998 to 2003 … - built a 7m x 3m heavy-timber pergola, - built a large wooden fence at the front of our property, - in one afternoon, shifted 50 wheel barrow loads of sand from my place to a fill site 100m up the road (I could hardly move let alone walk for the next 3 days!) - did indoor and outdoor paint ‘prep’ and painting. But it was all well spaced and always with much physical pain. COMMENCED SUPERMARKET NIGHTFILL In early 2006, I commenced my first physically-based paid job for nearly 18 years! And what a struggle that was - especially the first 9 or so months. The hours were long and the nights were many. i usually had to roll out of bed onto my hands and knees, then use the bed as support to stand up in the mornings. I had to do some form of stretches every day to keep going. I often had to rest by midday or early afternoon to be able to do that night’s work. 10 years I did that job … and it didn’t get too much easier over that time, BUT the stretches were being refined, becoming more effective and made it easier to recover when feeling or being ‘injured’. HOME MAINTENCE/RENOS I undertook some ‘heavier-type’ tasks around the home, including building a new room and re-roofing that back area. But even doing a simple task like holding a length of pine timber horizontally a bit above shoulder height up against a wall, caused much pain … which made me very short tempered! DAD ‘SORE’ Carrying a toddler was at most times difficult to do - as were giving them piggy-backs or shoulder carrys as young children. Even coaching them at sports as they got older, was sometimes very physically challenging to just stand there. Sometimes, even relaxing with the family was physically challenging. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (Back) To… ‘Effects of Injuries’ List Page (Back) To… “S-P-C” Site Overview Map ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WARNING: “Self-Physi-Chiro” may make it easier for you to form positive changes within and to your health/life. “SteveKineez” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ For whole site overview, visit … Steve “Kineez” SITE MAP Site-Wide Disclaimer and Copyright Notices
