FULL BODY LOCKUP - AT NIGHT This one was well after the in-Ocean#1 & in-Ocean#2 ‘Lockups’ WOKE UP DURING THE NIGHT Pretty standard for me not to sleep right through any night, so it was not unusual to be partly awake and not being able to immediately get back to sleep this particular night - probably in early 2000s. CHECK THE TIME After a while I decided to check the time - lets say it was 1am. In my head I let out a groan and decided to change position, in an attempt to get more comfortable and therefore - maybe - more likely to get back to sleep. As I went to move - bang! - it hit like it did those two previous times out surfing - the neck, arms and legs almost simultaneously ‘jammed’. JUST REPEAT THE ‘REACH OUT’ Well at least in the water, I got myself to ‘tearingly’ reach for the leg rope, so I thought that I should just attempt to move and hope the roar in my head and the bolt of pain would occur and I could move again … WRONG! COULDN’T MOVE ANY WAY It was like one of those cramps that no matter which way you went to move, the cramp gets worse and more painful. I went to move one way and the pain and stiffness increased significantly. So I tried to move the other way and the same thing happened. No matter which way I moved, it felt like my neck was going to snap! STAY CALM Now it became a bit hard to stay calm … even attempting to open my mouth to say something to my wife caused the same pain/stiffness response. I decided to try and relax where I lay. FINALLY COULD MOVE After quite a while, I could feel the pain and stiffness start to ease and I finally got the courage to again attempt to move … which I did slowly and the body moved without ‘tearing pain’. VERY EXHAUSTED I was by now very exhausted after trying to stay calm , while in so much pain and trying not to move. After a short while I decided to check the clock. AN HOUR HAD PASSED! It was now 2am - the ‘lock’ had lasted pretty much a whole hour! WENT TO MOVE AND … I again groaned in my head and went to move to get more comfortable and BANG! it happened again - same sort of move-no-way lockup! NOT SO LONG THIS TIME Thankfully for only half an hour this time, though still seemed a very long time! It was now 2.30am and I decided to try not to ‘comfort’ move … hopefully fall back to sleep in the position I was currently lying in. Think I finally did. UNDERLYING NECK AND LOWER BACK ISSUES While this type of lockup has not happened since, there are still underlying issues, especially my neck and lower back. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (Back) To… ‘Effects of Injuries’ List Page (Back) To… “S-P-C” Site Overview Map ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ WARNING: “Self-Physi-Chiro” may make it easier for you to form positive changes within and to your health/life. “SteveKineez” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ For whole site overview, visit … Steve “Kineez” SITE MAP Site-Wide Disclaimer and Copyright Notices
